Tess Cacciatore wrote the lyrics to this song in 1990, not knowing that one day the story of Politics of Love (FullSize.MP4., Small) would take a turn to represent the women and children of Congo, let alone the world.
This musical anthem inspires us to STAND UP FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN around the world, with the epicenter of those atrocities that are happening in DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo).
Tess inspired other musicians and artists from the Los Angeles area to come on board for the production of the song. Sekou Henderson offered up his recording studio and his engineer Phat Cat was brought onto the project and the tracks were created.
When it came to bringing on the vocalists, Tess reached out to her most talented singer friends and they created the powerful hook and chorus of the song: Sharon Stanley, John Vinestreet and Francesco DiCosmo (who also plays the haunting bass) trio up for the chorus.
Phat Cat lends his lead rapping skills to the song and even Tess got into the groove of the female lead rap.
Nizzy J came on board at the end to do the final mix, but not before Robin Olson (world class violin virtuoso) laid down the tracks of the rare stratevarius, which adds an emotional ride that pulls at your heart strings.
The song begins with the heart of the Congo with a tradional drummer and other Congolese vocalists who sing/speak the hook STAND UP FOR THE WOMEN AND THE CHILDREN in the native languages of Congo: Lingala, French and Swahili.
The awards show is November 17th in Hollywood, CA. It is our goal that Voices for the Congo receive attention for this song, to help get the message out there that aligns with the election in the Congo that is coming up November 2011.
Full compilation of African inspired music will be released 11-11-11 go to VOICES FOR AFRICA to see the project.
Proceeds from the single and the compilation will go to raise funds for building shelters and schools in Congo, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa for abused women and children.
LYRICS OF THE SONG - written by Tess Cacciatore 1991
Politics of Love
The introduction of the song is Congolese drummers that are typical to begin tribal dance and drum communication. The voices are all saying variations of "STAND UP FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN" in the main languages of Congo: French, Lingala, Swahili.
These are the Politics of Love
the price of our emotions
These are the Politics of Love
can we force such devotion
Verse 1
Imprinted images inside that we can’t control
Reflections of the truth - anger lies behind
Standing on a corner
Look into a puddle and see what’s in your reflection your reflection
I see that secret place inside your mind
indecisiveness doesn’t seem too kind
but it seems to hide all your pain
but what about their pain, their pain, her pain, his pain, my pain, your pain?
Verse 2
Are you saving your passion for a rainy day
don’t you realize that I realize your ways
go back - don’t hide - just because it'd be too late
stand up for what you believe - you believe
You fell in love with distance and you went too far
you became protected, covered and scarred
starting to dismiss all of your promises
promises...promises TURNED INTO LIES!
These are the Politics of Love
the price of our emotion
These are the Politics of Love
can we force such devotion
These are the Politics of Love
the price of our emotions
These are the Politics of Love
can we force such devotion
STAND UP - STAND UP - STAND UP
FOR THE WOMEN AND THE CHILDREN
Stand Up - Stand Up for the women and children
Stop the fight bring the truth to the light
Verse 3
Victims will now have a voice to make a choice
relieve their burdens
make your choice
WHERE'S YOUR VOICE! WHERE'S YOUR VOICE!
How can we console by raping the land of it’s sources
women and babies yeah they need a brand new courses
NO it won’t happen overnight
but if we take a stand and fight together we can make it right
STAND UP - STAND UP - STAND UP
FOR THE WOMEN AND THE CHILDREN
Stand Up - Stand Up for the women and children
These are the Politics of Love
the price of our emotion
These are the Politics of Love
can we force such devotion
These are the Politics of Love
the price of our emotion
These are the Politics of Love
can we force such devotion
Bridge:
And when all is said and done it’s a sad affair
and no one wins - and no one wins!
Empty hearts, heads, promises and LIES
after all that we’ve been through
after all that we’ve been through
Tell me who has to care
I know that you care you know what to do == so do I
you know what to do == and so do I
you know what to do == and so do I
STAND UP
After all we've been through it's a sad affair
BUT WE CAN WIN... WE CAN WIN!
STAND UP
